Shavige Chithranna | Lemon Shavige using instant rice shavige/sevai
This is a very popular & common breakfast dish of South India. Traditionally shavige is made at home & then tempered with lemon flavour. I’ll soon post the “Ottu Shavige” recipe. But today am using an instant rice shavige/sevai that is easily available at market to prepare this dish. Rice Shavige/sevai can be flavoured with tomato or coconut as well. For today I’ve chosen lemon flavour.

Instructions
Prep
- Heat water in a pan with salt & few drops of oil, till it comes to boil.
- Add the rice sevai and cook according to the package instructions.
- Drain the sevai in a colander and toss it in ½ tsp oil, this helps it to prevent it from sticking to each other. Set aside.
Method
- Heat oil in a wide pan & add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add channa dal, urad dal & ground nut. Fry until dal turns brown.
- Add curry leaves & green chillies, sauté for few seconds.
- Now add sliced capsicum & sauté for few minutes. (I like to retain the crush of capsicum so do not overcook them)
- Once capsicum is cooked, add turmeric powder & salt. Sauté for few more seconds.
- Then add the grated coconut & chopped coriander leaves to pan, mix everything well.
- Add cooked Rice shavige/Savai to prepared temper.
- Mix well & close the lid. Cook for one more minute under medium to low flame. Remove from the heat.
- Lastly squeeze juice from a lemon & add it to prepared Shavige. Mix Gently.
- Serve as is or along with coconut chutney.
