Mosappu | Mashed Greens Curry
Mosappu saaru is a curry prepared using assorted leafy greens & lentils. Mosappu in kannada means “Masida soppu” which translates to mashed greens. Combination of greens & lentils makes this dish very tasty & nutritious. Mosappu can be prepared using mixture of greens or with one type green leaf. At home we prepare this dish either using Dantina soppu or mixture of Chilakarave & Mentya soppu. Ragi Mudde & Mosappu is a very popular combination in southern parts of Karnataka.

Ingredients
- 1 big bunch Dantina Soppu
- ½ cup Toor Dal
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 medium Onion
- 1 medium Tomato
- 6-7 Green chillies (+ or - depending on your taste)
- 10 Garlic cloves
- ½ cup Grated coconut
- ¾ tsp Poppy seeds
- Salt to taste
- Water as required

- 1 tsp Oil/Ghee
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Few Curry leaves

Instructions
- Wash and cut Dantina soppu into big pieces.
- Chop Onions & tomatoes roughly.
- Pressure cook Toor dal, dantina soppu, onion, tomato, green chilli, garlic & turmeric to 2-3 whistle.
- Meanwhile grind grated coconut & poppy seeds to smooth paste using little water.
- Once pressure subsides, open the cooker add salt to taste & mash the cooked dantina soppu dal mixture using wooden whisk or masher.
- Add grind coconut paste to mashed greens dal mixture & boil it to 5-7 minutes in low heat.
- Lastly heat 1 tsp oil/ghee in tadka pan, add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves. Pour this over prepared Mosappu & mix well.
- Serve the "Mosappu" with Ragi mudde or steaming hot rice.
