Tomato Rice
This is a delicious rice recipe which is super quick to make. It’s a common breakfast cum lunch rice recipe. You can pair it up with a simple raita or potato chips.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 1 big Onion
- 1 big Tomato
- 2 Green chillies
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- ½ cup Green peas
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- ¾ tsp Garam masala powder
- 2 tsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
- Salt as required
- Water approx. 1.5 cup or as required

Prep
- Wash & soak basmati rice in 1.5 cups of water for 30 minutes.
- Slice Onion into thin slices lengthwise.
- Coarsely grind tomatoes & green chilies.
Method
- Heat oil in kadai add onions, sauté till it's golden brown & then add the ginger garlic paste. Sauté until intense smell of ginger garlic paste is gone.
- Add tomato, green chillies puree & spice powders (turmeric, red chilli & garam masala powder). Sauté till they start releasing oil.
- Now add Fresh green peas & coriander leaves. Sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add water (approx. 1.5 cups) which is used to soak basmati rice, wait until it comes to boil and add salt as required.
- Rice needs to be added now and close the kadai with lid, let it cook in low flame for 15 min. (if you are using the pressure cooker, close the lid & don’t put the whistle, let it cook in low flame for 15 min)
- After 15 min let it cool for 10 min and mix gently.
- Serve with curd or onion tomato raita.
